Content Linking is a set of functionalities within the Digital Repository module.
Content Linking main features are:
|•||Search materials having a digital repository link reference with the package;|
|•||Download consolidated packages (digital repository link consolidation).|
Content Linking sub-features are:
|•||Digital repository link consolidation (for both static and dynamic versions, see below);|
|•||Embedded materials publishing (for both static and dynamic versions, see below);|
|•||Linked materials version handling:|
|•||Change linked materials version;|
|•||Dynamic to static version: the digital repository link must reference the exact material version;|
|•||Static to dynamic version: the digital repository link must reference the last material version.|
Static version: a digital repository link within the manifest which references an exact material version;
Dynamic version: a digital repository link within the manifest which references the last material version, i.e. the last material version the logged user has access rights to, will always be taken despite potential subsequent material updates.
When the content is linked to materials which have been modified, it is possible to update the content links in order to have them linked to the new version of the materials.
Each time a package is consolidated, internal materials are published or material versions are managed, a new package version is built and published.
Any time a material package is modified, the material owners (or users otherwise related to them), who are "linked" within higher aggregation levels, know in which aggregations their materials are "used" (linked).
At the same time, the owners of the "aggregations" (or users otherwise related to them) can, at any time, monitor the updates of the linked resources and possibly decide to target the links with newer versions of the LOs or resources that they use in their aggregations.
To update an existing link
Locate the linked material from the Digital Repository, view its management page and select "Link updates" from the left hand side menu. The following window will display:
To change the link, choose amongst the options available from the drop-down menu and click on the "Apply" link which will appear on the right hand side of the drop-down menu. The link will now refer to the selected material.
To create a new link from the platform
To extract some resources from a packed course which is available from the Digital Repository and create a link to them, locate the material of interest, view its management page and select the "Link updates" option from the left hand side menu.
From this window it is possible to extract every single item of the packed course, publish them on the digital repository and only insert some links back in the package.
Choose the item to extract by selecting "Publish resource to DR and link it back" from the drop-down menu next to it and click on the "Apply" link which will appear on the right hand side of it.
